DNA On Extension Of Orders

DNA On Extension Of Orders

The country’s battle against the pandemic has been marred with political interferences and various allegations of mismanagement. However, the second wave of the virus has shifted various priorities and forced the state to take some radical measures to address the issue at hand. In this, the Prime Minister of the country has yet again delivered a speech to address the key issues focused around the vacci8nes, lockdown, and the situation of the healthcare. However, the missing points in the speech were the recent surge of the virus in the country.

In October 2020, a bill to address the medical emergency in the country was being introduced, as was also promised by the Attorney General. In this regard, the AG in February stated that the bull was in the last stage and it will address the Covid restrictions, as well as create an advisory committee. Though the bill was yet to be introduced in the cabinet. Derek Smith, National Chairman Democratic National Alliance, further lashed at the government saying that the administration had wasted ten months to allow the transition. The minister further stated that the authority failed to mention the crucial issue in their address, and they were unsure whether Public Health Preparedness and Management Bill will be ever given the actualized shape of law.

It’s to be kept in mind that Democratic National Alliance (DNA) drafted the plan last year, and according to them it will allow the country to co-exist with the virus. The chairman in further exploration and sheer clarity stated in his statement that he expected the government to apply the plan in its entirety instead of in instalments, in the interest of the nation. In addition to that, Derek added that DNA was aware of the PM’s agreement with the consensus that an individual has every right to take the vaccine or refuse to take them.

“The policy of the government of making the vaccines voluntary can’t be used to marginalize the non-vaccinated population, or lead to the policies that make it even hard for the Bahamian to earn their living”. The chairman in his brief statement expected that the plan to be implemented as soon as possible for the sake of the national interest, as he showed no interest in the instalment-based implementation of the government. This development comes as the country is set to take the new surge, and the healthcare capacity is filled. However, there have been various other issues that have been plaguing the healthcare sector.

Though the government has assured that the radical measures will be taken to ensure that the healthcare requirements are taken care of, the current surge will require more than the expected. In addition to that, the sector hasn’t been alien to the allegations of mismanagement. In a recent set of developments, many healthcare workers have called in sick to protest the absence of their names in the honorariums of the covid-19.
In this regard, the government had responded that their issues will be taken care of, and whoever is eligible for the payments, will be reconsidered.
